The MicroConnex Team
The MicroConnex CEO and Board
Paul Henwood, President and Chief Executive Officer
When Paul joined us in August of 2010, he brought with him 26 years of diverse experience that included everything from highly technical engineering jobs to sales, quality assurance, and management. He’s worked in medical ultrasound, consumer electronics, industrial computing, optical and metrology industries.
His most recent experience prior to MicroConnex was as the President & CEO of Metron Systems, Inc. – a manufacturer of non-contact 3D Laser metrology equipment. He’d also served as the Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Metron.
Ron Ho, president of U-Systems, Inc. and past president of Metron describes Paul as someone who is “unafraid to roll up his sleeves and do whatever is required to make the business successful.”
His door is always open, and his strong work ethic and intimate knowledge of all aspects of the value proposition ensure that MicroConnex will remain on top of every area of flex circuit design and fabrication, especially when it comes to increasing the value you receive as a MicroConnex customer.
Paul was an early advocate of Lean Manufacturing and Lean Thinking. During the first decade of his career Paul was a test and transducer engineer for Siemens Medical Systems. He has worked in manufacturing and engineering for a series of early-stage technology ventures, helping to launch their products and bring the companies commercial success.
Scott Corbett, Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board
Scott Corbett is currently the Chief Technical Officer at Blacktoe Medical. Blacktoe is a development-stage company and is leading the technical development of finger-worn ultrasound transducer devices. One of his chief duties is to manage the day-to-day $1.6 million contract with the U.S. Army to develop a prototype device.
Scott has a stellar 29 year history in the biomedical engineering field with over a decade of experience as President or Vice President of startup companies. As the co-founder of MicroConnex, he obtained early DoD/DARPA financing to develop laser-machined 2D ultrasound sensor technology and helped lead our shift to flex circuit and the micro-interconnect market.
His experience with small, growing, innovative companies like MicroConnex, as well as his experience as the co-founder of two biomedical engineering companies will enable us to increase our capacity without sacrificing reliability or customer service.
Scott brings to the MicroConnex board his expertise in a wide range of subject areas, including: acoustics, medical ultrasound, neuroprosthetic systems, implantable materials and systems, sensors, hearing technology, MEMS devices, laser micromachining, electrical/mechanical packaging and interconnect technology.
In addition to his experience as a business leader and creative force, Scott is the inventor or co-inventor on 23 patents in medical devices, sensor, micromachining and electronic interconnect arenas. Scott is an intuitive manager with excellent people and communication skills, as well as a successful writer and speaker.
Tom Clary, Co-Founder
Tom Clary is currently president of the Inception Group. Inception Group is a technical and early stage business development and consulting organization focused on projects in sensor development and advanced electronic packaging.
Tom has been involved with engineering, engineering management and business development for over 28 years with Quantum Medical (now Siemens Ultrasound), Advance Cochlear Systems, Oxigraph, Metron Systems to name a few. During Tom’s tenure at Quantum, he formed their first mechanical engineering and transducer engineering and manufacturing groups that greatly contributed to Quantum’s core competency and value around those technologies.
Tom’s experience and innovation over his career in transducer, ultrasound, high density interconnect and microelectronics has helped MicroConnex stay on the leading edge of technologies that enable core competencies in the fine-pitch, complex flex circuits and micromachining domains.
Tom graduated from UC San Diego with a BA in Mechanical Engineering along with Bioengineering grad work at University of Washington. Tom holds 13 patents and 1 is currently pending.
