Senior Applications Engineer

Qualifications and Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • 5-8 years experience in the field or in a related area
  • Extensive knowledge of flex manufacturing and/or laser micromachining processes

Roles and Responsibilities

Responsible for primary technical interface with customers during customer product/process development and as-needed for established customers. Researches, collects, and reports information on customer requirements and the ability and capacity of company processes and equipment to meet customer needs. Guides customers with design/technical tradeoffs during development. Aids in the design and development of equipment and processes, and redesign of existing processes to fulfill the needs of customers. Responsibilities also include providing process functionality and capability reports to the sales force, and acting as technical liaison to the sales team.

Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of Applications Engineering. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.

Laser AOI / QC Technician 2nd shift


  • High School diploma or GED and one to two years’ experience preferred. General knowledge of IPC-A610.
  • Proficient in MS Office, specifically Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, work instructions, software manuals; write simple and routine business reports; verbally communicate effectively in a professional manner

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards.
  • Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, and mechanical, electrical, or chemical characteristics.
  • Operates Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) equipment.
  • Perform quality control inspections using microscopes and various other quality tools.
  • Records test data, applying statistical quality control procedures.
  • Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards.
  • Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability.

MicroConnex Senior Microfabrication Manufacturing Engineer

MicroConnex is seeking a Senior Microfabrication Manufacturing Engineer to support existing and new production. We have built an extraordinary team and are seeking candidates who value being in a supportive yet challenging environment and relish the opportunity to make a difference. Our company is growing rapidly and this position is critical to enable this growth. This high-impact position reports to the Vice President of Operations and is responsible for overall yield and on-time delivery (OTD), working closely with counterparts in Process Engineering, Applications Engineering and Quality Assurance. Utilizing our Quality Management System, the manufacturing engineer will monitor production processes in the factory, investigate process interactions, implement continuous improvement, and drive data collection and analysis to improve yield and lower cost. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with a desire to improve self and surroundings, and will possess experience from mid-career level to experienced professional.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering leadership and support in the manufacturing organization
  • Help drive implementation and tracking of SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost) metrics in each unit process
  • Employ structured problem-solving for yield and OTD improvements
  • Focusing at the product-level, analyze and improve manufacturing process flows for quality, throughput and cost reduction; working closely with process engineering, drive documentation of process changes, implement process control techniques and procedures in manufacturing
  • Evaluate, improve and implement product handling improvements to meet target defect levels and lower product cost
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of shop manufacturing orders in accordance with the quality assurance requirements
  • Ensure appropriate process documentation exists and is being followed correctly by production staff
  • Work closely with process engineering and operations management to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for operations staff
  • Estimate staffing requirements, production times, and manufacturing costs to enable best informed operational decisions

Essential Skills

Direct experience developing and/or supporting any of the following fabrication processes in a manufacturing environment:

  • Electrodeposition of common electronic materials including copper, nickel and gold
  • Thin film deposition of metals and/or metal alloys and oxides via vacuum processes including sputter, CVD, PECVD, evaporation or ALD
  • Wet chemical etching of metals and/or oxides
  • Photolithography (coat/expose/develop)
  • Laser ablation for micromachining polymer, metal, ceramic or similar substrates
  • Substrate cleaning processes including common wet cleans and plasma cleans
  • Lamination, bonding and/or assembly of microelectronic packages or sub-assemblies

Education (Required)

  • BS in engineering or related field

Education (Preferred)

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Microelectronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering

Experience (Required)

  • 3+ years in printed circuit fabrication shop (flex or rigid) or 2+ years in MEMs or IC fabrication environment (working in a clean room a plus) with direct experience developing and/or supporting microfabrication manufacturing processes at scale.

Experience (Preferred)

  • 10+ years in printed circuit fabrication shop (flex or rigid) or 5+ years in MEMs or IC fabrication environment (working in a clean room a plus) with direct experience developing and/or supporting microfabrication manufacturing processes at scale. Experience as both fab process engineer and fab integration engineer a plus.
